Owlpump shares with you The Principle and The Most Common Usage of assorted effective Filtering Methods for Fish tanks & Fish ponds -Part 1

Filter System Building

Reading notes:

  • 5 minutes for reading;
  • Owlpump shares many details with articles serialized about Filter System.

  Tropical fish and aquatic plants can grow rapidly and grow robustly only when they grow in a suitable living environment. When we usually raise tropical fish and plant aquatic plants, the water quality in the aquarium is an uncertain and dynamic environment. What is raised and planted in the aquarium are living objects, and they secrete and excrete dirt all the time. The harmful substances in water quality are increasing at any time, and to maintain the stability of water quality, it is necessary to rely on filters to complete.

  Owlpump thinks the filter is a super important part of the aquarium which readers here will have the same feeling. Its function is to remove impurities in the water, fish excrement, fish secretion, residual bait, rotting branches and leaves of aquatic plants, and water through the filter material in the filter. The organic matter is filtered out to adjust the various indicators of the water, to maintain the stability of the water quality in the aquarium, to keep the water quality in the aquarium permanently fresh and thorough, so that the aquatic plants and tropical fish live in the aquarium as if they are in the wild ecological environment same.

  Owlpump believes that a complete filter must compose of the filter tank, pump (one or more submersible water pumps or strong pond pumps or some have Air Pump), and filter material. Its working principle is that the water in the aquarium is sucked into the filter tank through the submersible water pump, and filtered by the filter material in the filter tank. The filter material leaves harmful substances or impurities in the water in the filter tank and the filtered water goes back to the aquarium. This is the simplest mechanical filtration process. However, to keep the water quality in the aquarium in the initial state for a long time, mechanical filtration is not enough.

  Here with Owlpump manufacturing experience tells that the filter system mainly has 3 main functions:

 1. Physical filtration, filter cotton (coarse/fine).
Using the fiber in the filter cotton to block insoluble impurities and waste in the water. Physical filtration is an essential part of the filtration system. The filter cotton is often washed and changed frequently, which can effectively reduce the content of organic matter in the tank, thereby reducing the burden of the nitrification system, and further reducing the output of final mineral waste. Ignore the physical filtration of the filter configuration plan, to put it bluntly, the fish tank is regarded as a septic tank.

 2. Chemical filtration, the filter material is ammonia stone, water softening resin, grass mud pellets, and activated carbon.

Using ammonia stone, water softening resin, grass mud pellets, etc., through chemical methods, remove harmful substances soluble in water, or adjust the PH value (pH); in addition, activated carbon is used in the filtration, although it plays a physical role Adsorption is still aimed at substances that are soluble in water, so here, owlpump think it’s easier to understand the part of chemical filtration.

 3. Biological filtration, the filter material we usually call glass ring, biochemical ball, biochemical cotton, etc.

  Use glass rings, biochemical balls, and other filter materials to provide good growth space for nitrifying bacteria, and use the biological effects of nitrifying bacteria to convert the toxic waste generated by the metabolism of fish and aquatic plants into non-toxic substances. This is the most important link to keep the water quality of the aquarium stable.

 4. Other functions: For example, the filtered water flow can also wash and clean the leaf surface of water plants, promote fish swimming and exercise, and prevent water temperature stratification. These are incidental positive effects.

Don't go, in the next articles Owlpump will take many examples to share assorted filter systems, could read in the next blogs, please follow us if you think our content helps you,thank you for your attention about Owlpump.com!
